How to creatively theorise the ponder of erotica: a womanist’s poetic manifesto on sexual wish and enjoyment: Intercourse Schooling: Vol , No

Abstract

Principle provokes and stimulates. This theoretical essay blurs the boundaries involving educational and artistic non-fiction producing to illustrate Black females artists mining self-serving economies of embodied, affective enjoyment by crafting womanist erotica, that is, Black female/girl-centred, eros-charged art, new music, and literature. I perform with terms to create a polyvocal diptych essay theorising the surprise of womanist erotica and elucidating my politics, views and techniques as a Black woman(ist) imaginative writer and educator involved with Black females and girls’ intercourse schooling. My illumination of, and indulgence in, corporeal enjoyment is underpinned by information of (a) the suffering that characterises lots of Black ladies and girls’ educational and schooling experiences broadly, but also especially with regards to sexual intercourse schooling and (b) the racialised, gendered, and culturally situated experience of disgrace that occurs for several all through sexual play, that is, all through our participation in sexually (self-)gratifying functions. As a result, I offer a strong(ially) viscerally pleasurable reading through encounter though aiming to deepen intellectual and embodied understandings of the empowering rapture that womanist erotica can ignite. In addition to naming and (re)saying sexual desire as a prerogative, I imagine by womanist erotica as a tool for excavating a spiritually rooted erotic overall economy of (self-)pleasure.
