What is the baggage allowance for British Airways?

For British Airways cheap flights and expensive ones, the airline offers generous baggage allowance for the passengers regardless of their travel class. Since BA always prioritizes the ease and convenience of travellers, you can have peace of mind to carry all of your essentials along without any hassle. The airline offers sufficient baggage allowance as per your fae class, aircraft configuration, travel route and Executive Club Membership Status.

With British Airways, you can carry three types of baggage. Namely; Checked baggage, carry-on baggage and hand baggage.

Checked Baggage.

Checked baggage is the baggage that you submit to the airline during your check-in and boarding phase. This type of luggage is usually stored inside the specific aircraft compartment and, thus, can only be accessed after arrival at the final destination. That’s why it allows carrying the items that are prohibited in carry-on luggage as well as having a higher weight limit.

The dimensions of your checked baggage with British Airways can be up to (90 x 75 x 43) cm or (35 x 30 x 17) in per bag.

Economy (also known as Euro Traveller).

Passengers travelling in Economy Class of British Airways (also known as Euro Traveller) generally receive only one complimentary checked bag that has a maximum weight allowance of 23 kilograms (or 51 pounds) per bag. However, for base fare flights, there’s no checked baggage allowance.

Premium Economy (also known as World Traveller Plus).

Passengers flying with Premium Economy class tickets (also known as Word Traveller Plus) get two free checked bags, each weighing up to 23 kilograms (or 51 pounds).

Business Class (also known as Club Europe/Club World).

Business class travellers of the airline (also known as Club Europe/Club World) have a checked baggage allowance of up to 32 kilograms (or 70 pounds) per bag as two bags are allowed.

First Class.

First Class passengers generally enjoy the higher baggage allowance with British Airways with three free checked bags, each weighing up to 32 kilograms (or 70 pounds).

Carry-On luggage.

Carry-on luggage is also known as cabin luggage because it is the type of baggage that passengers carry with them inside the flight cabin. It is usually stored in the overhead storage compartments over your seat. Therefore, to fit in this small space the maximum dimensions of the carry-on bag can be up to (56 x 45 x 25) cm or (22 x 18 x 10) in including wheels and handles.

Economy and Premium Economy travellers.

Passengers in the economy class cabin and premium economy class cabin only have the carry-on allowance of one bag that can be a maximum of up to 23kg (or 51lb).

Business and First-Class ticket holders.

Business class and first-class ticket holders get a more carry-on allowance in terms of bags i.e. passengers travelling within these classes are allowed two carry-on bags. The size and weight restrictions are standardized throughout all the travel classes of British Airways for cabin luggage.

Hand baggage.

In addition, to the cabin luggage, passengers can carry additional bags under the;

Personal items bag.

If you need to, you can carry an additional bag free of cost consisting of your personal items. Such as;

• Wallet/purse.

• Laptop.

• Electronics.

• Toiletries.

• Medicines.

• Travel documents, etc.

Note that this bag should be smaller in size and weight as compared to cabin luggage because it is to be stored under the seat in front of you.

Infant Allowance.

If you have a baby travelling along with you, you are allowed to bring one extra bag that should only contain the baby’s supplies. For instance, diapers, food, milk, clothes, etc.

Personal items.

If you are carrying special items such as sports equipment, musical instruments, or other bulky items; they are subject to specific terms and conditions as per the airline’s policies and your travel route.

Some of those items can be part of your carry-on luggage while others require extra checked baggage allowance or need to be sent as cargo.

So, this is the comprehensive overview of the British Airways baggage allowance business class, economy class, premium economy class and first class. If you require more baggage, you can also purchase it through the ‘Manage my Booking’ platform for an additional fee.
